 About College 

Govt. Hamidia Arts & Commerce College Bhopal was established in 1946 by Nawab Hamidullah Khan, ruler of erstwhile Bhopal state. Its first premises was iconic Minto Hall. When the new state of Madhya Pradesh was formed on November 1, 1956, Minto Hall was transformed into legislative house. Hamidia College, Bhopal was relocated to a new campus near Govt. Polytechnic College. In 2005 it was again shifted to then govt. MLB Girls College Campus situated in Hathikhana, Budhwara Bhopal.

Post Graduation in Political Science was started in 1952. Since then the college has flourished in leaps and bounds and now it is offering PG in 12 Subjects of Arts faculty as well as M.Com in Commerce faculty. The college has also been upgraded to a research center in many subjects and its faculty is busy in guiding hundreds of research scholars in their pursuit of Ph.D degrees. The college has been elevated to research center status in arts, languages, social sciences and commerce stream for Ph.D and D.Litt. Research scholars from all over India are doing their research work under the able supervision of faculty in a congenial atmosphere.

The college is proud of its rich library. Its old and new books collection is unparalleled. The library has a number of old manuscripts in many languages like Hindi, Urdu, Arabic, Sanskrit, Persian and English. Moreover, all departments have their own well organized and maintained departmental libraries.

Hamidia College has maintained its well preserved leadership and pioneering status in the field of higher education since its inception. Its Golden Jubilee was celebrated in 1996 and it was attended by then President of India and its alumni Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma. Now as the college is nearing its Platinum Jubilee in 2021 it is equally concerned to carry on its brilliant track record in academic excellence and extra-curricular activities.

The college has a long standing tradition of being a nursery for producing gems in all walks of life. It has a long and illustrious list of academicians, politicians, business magnets, sports personalities and other Luminaries.

The college caters to all three wings of NCC i.e. Air wing , Naval wing and Army wing. Two units of NSS are functioning in the college and NCC and NSS boys have many a times brought laurels by representing in Republic Day Parade and other national and International forums.

The college has an Alumni Association and efforts are on to enhance the alumni network and to generate old boys contribution in the betterment of the college. Some eminent alumni are playing a pivotal role in paying back to their alma mater through different ways and means.

The higher education dept. of M.P. Government has introduced a Jan Bhagidari Samiti in college to enhance public participation in college management and to generate funds for the development of infrastructure and scholastic achievements.

Govt. Hamidia College has also been granted status of Lead College (Agrani) for close co-ordination in day to day administrative works of the colleges of Bhopal district.

The college has been granted B grade by NAAC in the year 2014
